ULiège is one of 8 partners in the CNPq-supported project "Origin and Impact of Mercury Exposure through Diet and Visuomotor Alterations in the Traditional Population of the Madeira River Basin, Western Amazon".
This project aims to analyze methylmercury exposure in the traditional populations of the region and evaluate its neurotoxic effects, particularly on motor and cognitive functions. It will fund a PhD student and a postdoctoral researcher, who will be at the Biological Oceanography Laboratory, to deepen the understanding of the sources and impacts of this pollution. The findings will provide a foundation for developing public policies aimed at mitigating the health risks associated with mercury contamination in the Amazon.
