The Erasmus+ programme Marine Environmental Threats (MET-BIP) has once again been officially endorsed in 2026 as an activity of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), coordinated by UNESCO.

Developed in partnership with the University of the Azores, the University of the Basque Country and the University of Pavia (lead partner), this Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) represents an innovative Erasmus+ mobility format combining:

  • online collaborative learning,
  • a short but intensive international field experience,
  • multidisciplinary teamwork.

The programme addresses major global challenges affecting ocean health, including overexploitation of fish stocks, marine pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change. Its objective is to train the next generation of scientists capable of working in international and interdisciplinary contexts, using solution-oriented approaches.

The renewed endorsement under the UN Ocean Decade (2025 and 2026) confirms the scientific and educational excellence of the programme and its alignment with international sustainability priorities.
